Beach House/Story

Maddie finds a beach house and starts repairing it. Grandma tells her about Casey and Skatie.

Dialogue

After Task 6-4 (Remove overgrown shrubs):

Maddie

Hey, Grandma! Look at this cute beach house I found.

Ursula

Yes, very nice. Say, Maddie, how do you spell 'heist?' Is it I before E or E before I or--

Maddie

Why on earth are you trying to spell that? Planning on robbing a bank?

Ursula

Me, rob a bank, alone?! Goodness, no. Unless... no.

Maddie

I know you're just trying to tease me, Grandma. Can we talk about this house instead? Do you know anything about it?

Ursula

Not really. I may have written about it in my old journals, though. I'll go check!

[Ursula leaves.]

Maddie

I hope she's not really contemplating bank robbery!

After Task 6-6 (Fix and restore front door):

[Lock symbol for the Side Entrance appears]

Maddie

This is where I should head next...after this beach is done.

After Task 6-18 (Restore stored surfboards):

Maddie

I'd love to see your journals one day, Grandma. Sounds like they're filled with family history.

Ursula

I'll take those books to my grave, Maddie!

Maddie

Alright, you don't need to show me! But did you find out anything about the beach house in them?

Ursula

I... yes. I know that your Grandpa's cousin 'Skatie Katie' built the place with her partner Casey.

Maddie

Skatie Katie?! She sounds pretty interesting.

Ursula

She was another Boulton inventor, just like you. But her tale is really tragic.

Ursula

In fact, I don't think I want to talk about it right now. Sorry, Maddie.

After Task 6-40 (Casey & Skatie event):

Maddie (encouraging)

Grandma, I just found a photograph - of you, Grandpa, and other people on skateboards here at the beach house!

Ursula (default)

I thought I'd burned all these old photos! I mean, uh, well. Yep, that's us - with Skatie Katie and Casey.

Maddie (default)

I didn't realise skateboarding was popular when you were kids.

Ursula (default)

It wasn't, but Katie loved roller skating, and Casey loved surfing. So one day she put the wheels of her skates onto his surfboard, and invented the first skateboard!

Maddie (worried)

What was the tragedy, though? And why did you need to check your journals if you knew about this place?

Ursula (doubtful)

The tragedy was that I was lousy at skateboarding! I fell in front of Charlie and was embarrassed for weeks. I just didn't want to tell you too.

Maddie (surprised)

Grandma, that's NOT a tragedy. You had me really worried!

After Task 6-36:

Maddie

Alright, mind blown! So he was a surfer, she was a roller skater, and they came together and made skateboards?

Grandma

That's right, sweetie. Cousin Katie always said they invented the skateboard.

Maddie

Invented the skateboard? You're kidding, right?

Grandma

I don't know about that, but every surfer who came here looking for Casey showed up with a surfboard and left with a skateboard...

Maddie

This makes sense after all! Grandma, for a moment I was worried about you. So, I had this question about...

Grandma

Oh my gosh! I left the bath running! And I put an extra dollop of bubbles in!

Maddie

But you don’t have a bath!

Maddie

Oh well, now I can at least make space in the garage by removing items that are no longer needed
