The dialogue is conveyed through pop-ups, and the player can’t continue playing without reading through it or skipping it (by clicking the skip button). Maddie’s remarks can be ignored, but sometimes they give useful tips.

Unfortunately, the story is very dispersed throughout the game, and the player might easily forget what happened earlier on.

Introduction (spoiler free)[]

Maddie's Grandma gives her keys to a gate, behind which she finds a Mansion. After going up to it, Roddy Took, a Building Inspector, tells her the house has to be taken down because it’s unsafe. He hints that it doesn't have to come down if Maddie cleans up the driveway, and then he leaves. After Maddie starts cleaning up, her Grandma shows up and answers questions or gives comments about things she finds in the Garden, but leaves with a cryptic comment about the past and a remark about her next “cake in the oven”, which leaves Maddie wondering.

Key plot points (contains spoilers)[]

Main plot[]

Maddie starts fixing up the gardens of the Mansion. While renovating the garage she finds an old watch that is inscribed "To my Chuck." Grandma tells her to throw it away, but Maddie doesn't do so. At the end of the pool area, Grandma is arrested in a cut-scene. While renovating the fortress, Roddy explains that he asked around town about the watch, and Maddie realizes this is why Grandma was arrested.

While renovating the pier area, Maddie gets a call out of the blue from someone claiming to be her Grandpa Charlie (Ursula's husband). He sends Maddie on a quest to unlock the pool house safe (Scavenger Hunt). Maddie unlocks the safe and finds Charlie's notebook; following clues she finds inside it, she renovates the Maze and the Conservatory. Maddie finds a letter purporting to be from Charlie, saying that Ursula is innocent and proof can be found in the mansion. Further clues in the notebook lead Maddie to investigate the Cemetery and the Lighthouse. At the end of the Lighthouse she finds out that the key to the mansion is under the doormat.

Whilst renovating the Gallery, Maddie meets Detective Kate Sullivan who has started investigating Grandma's case. Maddie later finds a photograph, which appears to show Grandma marrying Crutchley, who Roddy identifies as being a notorious mob boss. Grandma says there are things she had to do to keep the family safe but refuses to elaborate further. She locks the door to the North Wing but Winston tells Maddie there is a spare key.

Whilst renovating the Lounge, Grandma finally admits that Crutchley was her first husband. He promised Grandma the world and to get the family out of debt, if she married him. She later learned the truth about him. Charlie helped her escape but they have had a target on their back ever since.

Detective Sullivan is caught snooping around the mansion at Dancefloor. She mentions that there was a second gold watch. Grandma asks Winston to lock down the mansion and says she will tell Maddie the truth at the Cemetery. At their meeting, Grandma admits the watch the police have is a fake. She says she doesn't know if Charlie is alive or not. He tried to infiltrate the mob. The mob have ben after the Boultons and know the secret of the mansion.

Victoria, Bruno and the city council[]

The Hopewell Bay city council wishes to demolish the Boulton mansion, as it is rundown and an eyesore. The council initially sends Roddy to inspect the building and he says that if they make progress with the renovations in the garden this will buy more time.

Roddy tells Maddie to clean up the Fortress, as a member of the planning committee sees it while driving every day. While renovating the Maze we are introduced to Holden, a photographer who has been sent by the council to keep an eye on the renovations.

Once inside the mansion, Victoria arrives in the Great Hall. She has been promoted to head of the city council and says that the Boultons were not very good at managing the place.

Victoria rings up Maddie during the renovation of the Bathroom and tells her not to let time slip away. Ash reveals that they overheard a conversation between Victoria and her husband, Bruno (the mayor of Hopewell Bay), which suggests that the couple are having financial problems and sees Beaumont Hall as a way of solving them. Maddie now has Victoria's jacuzzi as Victoria's credit card bounced.

In Landing Room, we meet Bruno who is a lot more charming than his wife. He offers to buy Beaumont Hall and says he would preserve it as it is an important part of Hopewell Bay's heritage. He suggests that, If the Boultons were to sell, he might be able to use his position as Mayor to get the police investigation into Grandma dropped.

In Lounge, Victoria turns up to sneer and sees that the Lounge area used to be a casino. Bruno then arrives and says he wants to transform the mansion into a casino. Maddie refuses to sell so Bruno turns nasty and says that Grandma will definitely go to jail but Maddie can still leave unscathed. Maddie throws Bruno out, although his parting shot is "your fate is sealed"

In Speakeasy, Jackie goes undercover to get a story on Victoria and Bruno. She manages to steal some files. Bruno decides to take matters into his own hands by sending a construction company.

Bruno and Leonard conspire to turn the stables into a racecourse. Once the casino and racecourse are built, Bruno will let Leonard run the racecourse.

Leonard rings up during Library as the Mansion deeds have been signed over to Maddie (presumably by Ursula). Bruno arrives and first threatens then cajoles Maddie. He offers to make Ursula's arrest go away and a a share of the profits. As Maddie is wavering, Roddy arrives and says that he has found proof the Mansion is a heritage site. He says Bruno hid the documents. Victoria then rings Bruno saying the police are now investigating them for corruption and embezzlement. The mansion appears to be saved.

In Maddie's room, Victoria vows revenge and sends Holden to spy on the mansion again. Ursula's says that Victoria's family and the Boultons have history.

Maddie's parents[]

While renovating Frog Pond Falls Maddie finds a frog statue saying "To Becky, from Michael" (her parents). They died when Maddie was young, and then Maddie was raised by Grandma Ursula. In Romantic Spot, Maddie learns a bit more about how Becky and Michael were childhood sweethearts.

In Veil of Fate, Lady Voyance reveals that Maddie's parents died in a car crash and Maddie was in the car with them. Ursula says that Lady Voyance is talking nonsense.

In Maddie's room, Ursula reveals the full truth. She and Michael had a fight and he drove off. Ursula followed to try and make it up and saw their car crashed and fire. She heard Maddie crying and was able to rescue her from the back seat but couldn't save Michael or Becky. She admits to feeling, huge amount of guilt but Maddie assures Ursula that she forgives her and is thankful for being rescued.

Leonard and Winston[]

Maddie catches Winston the butler stealing valuables from the maintenance room. Winston reveals he has been forced to steal them for his master, Leonard Boulton. Winston appears again in the Conservatory, saying he has left the service of Leonard. In the Hallway Jackie suggests that Leonard is responsible for losing the family fortune, but Winston denies this.

Prior to meeting Winston, whilst renovating side entrance, Maddie discovered evidence of a former love affair between "Winnie" and "Lionheart". It is strongly implied that the lovers were Winston and Leonard (Leo is Latin for lion).

Leonard is mentioned as the driving force behind the casino in the Lounge. Leonard was served with a cease and desist notice as gambling was illegal in Hopewell Bay at the time.

While renovating the Dancefloor, Maddie renovates two mannequins - one of a butler and one of a well-dressed gentleman. These are strongly implied to be Winston and Leonard

Leonard appears for the first time at the Speakeasy. It is revealed he has been working with Bruno and Victoria and suggested turning the mansion into a casino. Maddie works out he is Lionheart and suggests that Leonard wants to demolish the memories to obliterate the bad memories from breaking Ursula and Winstons' hearts. Leonard denies this.

At the stables, Leonard accuses Winston of taking Maddie's side. Deb arrives later and says that Winston was the only one who could bring out Leonard's softer side. He now has nothing to lose.

Ursula and Charlie's shady past[]

The tagline for many of the online adverts is "What's Grandma hiding?", and Ursula constantly avoids giving clear answers to Maddie’s questions. In the Study, we learn that Grandma became a bootlegger to help with the family's shortage of money. In the hideout, Maddie finds a number of disguises and begins to suspect that Charlie may have been a spy.

We also learn more about Ursula and Charlie's relationship. Charlie was a carpenter's son from the poor side of town (Flower Garden), and they kept their relationship a secret because Ursula's family was worried that Charlie was pursuing Ursula for the estate (cemetery). Charlie's mum was a codebreaker in World War II (Maze), and one of his grandmothers was a nurse (flower garden). Charlie took Ursula's last name when they got married, as the letter he wrote says his name is Charles Boulton.

Deb and the Boulton family[]

Winston and Deb don't get on. It is suggested that Winston doesn't see Deb as part of the Boulton family (dining room). Maddie finds a family photo, which doesn't include Deb. At the end of Veil of Fate 2.0, Lady Voyance suggests that Deb has secrets

Maddie's love life[]

This is often revealed via game events rather than the areas.

Pre-game, Maddie was engaged to Arthur, but she was jilted at the altar.

Maddie meets Roddy during the renovation. They flirt with each other but neither seems to realise that the other one is flirting. Roddy writes Maddie a poem (side entrance).

Maddie meets Emilio Costa, a marine biologist who has moved to Hopewell Bay (Joys of the Sea). In Veil of Fate, Lady Voyance tells Maddie to go and seek happiness with Emilio, although she then says that the sands show the name Arthur

In Fa-la-la-la Follies, Mason says he saw Emilio and Maddie kissing under the mistletoe.

By Double Date Disaster, Maddie and Emilio are now dating. Roddy suggests a double date for Valentine's Day and invites Jackie to join him. Jackie suggests that Roddy still has a thing for Maddie but he says that the "ship has sailed". In the end, Emilio gets a call and has to go to Bolivia to save the fish, leaving Maddie devastated.

In Love on the Vine, Deb, Julius and Pearl arrange a number of blind dates for Maddie with male relations of theirs.

In Library, Arthur arrives back in Maddie's life. Ursula admits that she got rid of Arthur but said it was for a good reason.

Detailed story and dialogue by area[]

Maddie finds the statue and Grandma tells her about Ignatius Boulton and the family fortune.

Dialogue[]

[INTRO CUTSCENE]

Three months earlier...

[INT. HOUSE]
Postman
*knock knock*
Maddie
A letter for Grandma? Looks very official...

Hmm, Grandma isn't around. Maybe I should check what's inside. Just in case...
Grandma has a mansion?! And it's going to be seized because of her unpaid taxes?!
Grandma!! Does our family really own a mansion in Hopewell Bay?!
They can't just seize it from us!! This must be a mistake, right?

Can we go there and see what's up? Pleeeease!
[EXT.]
Maddie
Grandma, I realize you never want to see the estate again, but...
Thanks for coming here with me.
Ursula
I don't know why you wasted your savings paying the back taxes on this old wreck, Maddie.
Maddie
It's our family home, and as the last surviving Boulton it's my duty to be here.
Plus, someone from the local council wrote and told me that we have to restore the estate or they'll condemn it and rip it down!
[THEY LEAVE - GATE OPENS]
Maddie
I bet they'll do it too, so I WON'T let that happen - I'm going to make this place look amazing.
[EXT. MANSION]
Maddie
This house is HUGE! Our family must have been a big deal in the past.
[URSULA REJOINS]
Ursula
Looks smaller than I remembered. Messier, too.
[EXT. GARAGE]
Maddie
You're right about the mess. It's no wonder the council wants to condemn it.
[URSULA LEAVES]
Maddie
Let's clear this up so we can start saving the estate! First, we need tools to clear a path in...

After Task 2-1 (Remove withered plants):

Maddie
Hello? Is someone there?
[OUT FRONT OF ESTATE - ENTER RODDY]
Roddy
Hello! I was passing by and, uh, thought I smelled something delicious baking.
Are you trying to get this old place back in shape? You're brave. I've heard so many strange stories about it.
Maddie
What kind of stories? What are you talking about??
Roddy
Uh, just silly local tales about the reason for it being so rundown. I didn't mean to make you angry...
Maddie
Sorry - you didn't. I've just got a lot to do to restore the estate so the council won't condemn it.
Roddy
Ouch! The council here is tough - especially the head of the Infrastructure Committee. She's, uh, pretty scary.
Maybe I can help out? I'm an architect, and I know a thing or two about getting homes through the renovation process.
Maddie
Why would you help me, Mr...?
Roddy
Took - Roddy Took. I've loved the look of this place ever since I moved into town. I'd hate to see the council tear it down.
Maddie
Hmm. Well, I'm Maddie, and I may just take you up on your offer. Thanks!

After Task 1-6 (Remove overgrown bushes):

Maddie
Grandma, do you know any strange stories about the estate? Are they the reason you kept me away from it?
Ursula
I don't know what you're talking about. Can we go home now?
Maddie
This is home! Oh, Grandma, can't you just try? What is it with you and this place, anyway?
Ursula
It's complicated. But I'll try - for you. I suppose the gardens are quite nice, in the right light...
Maddie
They're going to be beautiful when I'm finished! I will NOT let the council condemn this place.
Ursula
I believe you there. You've always been good at making and fixing things. Inventing is in your DNA!
Maddie
Huh? What do you mean?
Ursula
Never mind. Alright, we can stay awhile. Just - watch where you dig, will you?

After Task 1-21 (Remove tarpaulin):

Maddie
Who's this, Grandma?
Ursula
Him? That's Ignatius Montague Boulton. He's the one who built this place and made the family fortune.
Not that there's been any money for a long time! But he had some. Think he was born in about 1802.
Maddie
Hey, you DO know stories about the estate! And it's good to hear one.
Ursula
Don't get too used to it. But yeah. I guess I know some ancient history.
Maddie
Great! I want to learn all about Grandpa Charlie, and my parents, and...
Ursula
Some secrets are best left buried, Maddie. I'm off to bake.
[URSULA LEAVES]
Maddie
She's hiding something! I just wish I knew what it was - and why!

Tranquility Terrace[]

Grandma tells Maddie how Charlie proposed to her by the fountain. She also hints that Grandpa Charlie may not have died due to a heart attack.

Dialogue[]

After Task 2-17 (Fix water valve):

[In front of the fountain]
Maddie
I'm surprised to see you up here, Grandma.
Ursula
Just taking in the view. Speaking of views - what's going on with you and that Roddy guy?
Maddie
He's just helping me with the council, Grandma! You know I'm doing everything I can to stop them condemning the place. Anyway, I'd love to hear about this fountain. What's the story?
Ursula
The story is... that I'm going to go and bake a cake for your new friend.
Maddie
Huh. Grandma's definitely deflecting, and I want to know why!

After Task 2-29 (Turn on the fountain):

Ursula
All right, Maddie. Listen up. This fountain is where your Grandpa Charlie proposed to me.
Maddie
That's so romantic! Why didn't you want to talk about it before?
Ursula
I just miss him, and being here makes me think of how I lost him.
Maddie
I'm sorry, Grandma. It must be hard to be reminded of his heart attack.
Ursula
It wasn't a... I mean, oh! I hear the kettle whistling! Better go.
Maddie
Hmm. Either l'm imagining it, or she was about to say that my grandpa didn't die of a heart attack!

Frog Pond Falls[]

Roddy comes up and tells Maddie she's doing a great job restoring the estate. Maddie finds the big frog statue. It has an engraving on it saying "To Becky, from Michael". Ursula tells Maddie a bit about Maddie's parents.

Dialogue[]

After Task 4-23:

[Maddie goes to the Driveway.]
Maddie
Hi Roddy! What brings you here today?
Roddy
Someone called Ursula emailed me and told me that you had a cake for me?
Maddie
Ursula's my Grandma. I don't know about any cake, but it is good to see you again.
Roddy
It is?! I'm glad to hear you say that. I can't stop thinking about y--
Maddie
Yeah, I've been really worried about the council. Do you think I'm doing enough to restore the estate?
Roddy
Oh! Of course! I'm sure you are. The place looks much better already. I'll go there and see if I can dig anything up, though.
Maddie
Thank you. Now that I know about the Boulton estate I plan to have it forever!

After Task 4-30:

Maddie
Is that a giant frog?! Hey, there's an engraving on it. Let's see what it says...
Grandma
Now, don't go reading that. It's not important.
Maddie
To Becky, from Michael
Grandma
I asked you not to read it, didn't I?
Maddie
But it's my mom and dad! Look, I don't know why you never speak about them, but I really want to know--
Grandma
Whoops! I've gotta run. My online knitting club starts in a few minutes!

After Task 4-36:

Grandma
I was knitting a balaclava and couldn't stop thinking about this old frog statue.
Maddie
A balaclava? You mean those masks that robbers use?!
Grandma
Other people wear them too. Anyway, listen - your Dad did get this for your Mom. Sorry I didn't tell you before.
Grandma
When Becky was a kid, visiting the estate, she really loved coming to play in the frog pond.
Grandma
Michael used to say that when she first kissed him he turned from a frog into a handsome prince.
Maddie
Aww, Grandma. Thanks for telling me! It feels so good to hear about them both.

Blue Box is added as an option to Shop

After Task 4-37:

Maddie
Hi Roddy. Did you get any information on the council for me?
Roddy
Do I smell cherry pie? Uh, I mean, yes. It all looks good so far.
Roddy
They say you still have a lot to do, but that you're doing well. And--
Maddie
--Whoa! That sounded like a crash!
[Maddie goes to the Gate]
Julius
Well! That wasn't quite the entrance I intended to make, but here I am.
Maddie
Are you alright?
Julius
Goodness - Maddie, is that you? I haven't seen you since you were a toddler.
Maddie
Uh, do I know you?
Julius
It's me, Julius! I'm an, ahem, old friend of your Grandmother. Is she around?
Maddie
She's here somewhere - but are you alright?
Julius
Oh, I'm fine. I was just a tad distracted when I saw the improvements you'd made here!
Julius
I'll go and find Ursula, if it's alright with you? I am terribly sorry about the mess I made.
Maddie
Don't worry, I have LOTS to do here to satisfy the council! One more thing doesn't matter as long as you're safe.

This opens The Gate.

Garage[]

Maddie cleans the garage. Grandma tells her about Lindsay Boulton and that her dad lost the family fortune. Lindsay comes up with a great idea to get it back again and invented the very first spray can.

Maddie also finds a gold watch with an engraving "For my Chuck." Grandma claims she has never seen it before. Maddie is sure it belonged to her Grandpa Charlie. She gives a picture of it to Roddy to ask about it around Hopewell Bay.

Dialogue[]

After Task 5-22 (Organize desk):

Maddie
Oh, wow, I found a watch! Looks old, and it's heavy too. There's an inscription - 'For my Chuck.'
Ursula
What's that you've got there, Maddie?
Maddie
A gold watch. Do you know who it could have belonged to?
Ursula
Uh, nope. Never seen it. Looks horrible. I imagine it's broken too, is it?
Maddie
Well, yeah, but I'm pretty sure I can repair it.
Ursula
Don't bother. Just throw that thing in the trash and forget about it. I'll go buy you a new watch!
[Grandma leaves.]
Maddie
Ok, she's definitely being strange. There must be more to this watch than meets the eye...

After Task 5-23:

[Lock symbol appears to The Old Well]
Maddie
Looks like I should investigate this area next after I'm ready with the Garage.

After Task 5-24 (See hidden car under the tarp):

Maddie
What a gorgeous car! Looks like a real classic.
Grandma
It belonged to Lindsay Boulton. That woman had real class - and had to fight hard.
Maddie
What happened to her?
Grandma
Her father lost the family fortune in the stock market crash, back in 1929. He wouldn't listen to her ideas to recover it.
Maddie
How awful! Did she ever persuade him to listen?
Grandma
What does it matter? Look around, kiddo. This place went to the dogs.
[Grandma leaves.]
Maddie
Maybe, but I'm going to do everything I can to bring it back to life!

After Task 5-37 (Install trunk):

Ursula
I know this old car is a beauty, but there's something missing. Can you spot it?
Maddie
Huh... no! What is it?
Ursula
I'll give you a clue - look at the car hood!
Maddie
Car hood? Can't you just tell me what it is I'm looking for?
[Maddie leaves.]
Ursula
I'm sure you'll figure it out, dear!

After Task 5-40 (Lindsay Boulton event):

Maddie (thinking)
I keep thinking about the watch I found. I bet 'Chuck' was Grandpa Charlie! But why would Grandma say the watch was junk?
Ursula (thinking)
Hello dearie. You look lost in thought. Did you get rid of that ugly old watch like I asked you to?
Maddie (doubtful)
Uh, yes. Of course I did. So anyway, about Lindsay Boulton - what did she do?
Ursula (thinking)
Well, like I told you, her dad lost the family fortune. Lindsay came up with a great idea to get it back again, but he wouldn't listen.
Ursula (joyous)
She went ahead and did it anyway - she came up with the very first spray can!
Maddie (encouraging)
That's amazing! I can't believe my relatives invented tin cans and spray cans.
Ursula (encouraging)
Yep. Her dad wasn't happy at first, but when her invention saved the estate he apologized and left her everything.
Maddie (default)
It's been incredible to find out I'm not the only inventor in the family!
[Maddie leaves.]
Ursula (default)
And not the first person trying to save this old estate, either...

After placing the car hood ornament:

Maddie: So tell me about Lindsay Boulton

Ursula: Well, like I told you, her dad lost the family fortune. Lindsay came up with a great idea to get it back again, but he wouldn't listen. She went ahead and did it anyway - she came up with the very first spray can!

Maddie: That's amazing! I can't believe my relatives invented tin cans and spray cans.

Ursula: Yep. Her dad wasn't happy at first, but when her invention saved the estate he apologized and left her everything.

Maddie: It's been incredible to find out I'm not the only inventor in the family!

Ursula: And not the first person trying to save this old estate, either...

The Old Well[]

Maddie and Grandma found a dog in the old well. They rescue him and name him Rufus.

Dialogue[]

After Task 6-1 (Remove foliage):

Roddy
Hey Maddie, I got your message. What can I do?
Maddie
I found this gold watch in the garage, and wanted to find out who it belonged to. Can you ask around?
Maddie
I'd do it myself but I'm so busy here, and I don't want to take any time off in case the council comes calling!
Roddy
Of course! I'll take a photo of it and ask around in Hopewell Bay for you. We'll find the owner of the watch.
[Ursula appears.]
Ursula
What watch?!
Maddie
Oh, hi Grandma! Roddy's going to ask people in town if they lost the gold watch I found.
Ursula
I thought I told you to trash the thing? Why are you showing it to Roddy?
Maddie
Why shouldn't I? Is there something about this watch that you want to tell me?
Ursula
No, no. Just take my advice. You should throw it in the garbage and forget about it.
[Ursula leaves.]
Maddie
She's definitely up to something. It makes me even more determined to find out who the watch belongs to!

After Task 6-6 (Plant flowers):

Maddie
What's that noise? It sounds like a dog - but I can't see one around. I'd better investigate.

After Task 6-7 (Fix grass):

[Lock symbol for the Beach House appears - Complete The Old Well to unlock this area]

After Task 6-57 (Remove the cover):

Maddie
It's definitely a dog - and it's coming from this old well! I'd better help the poor thing out.

After Task 6-58 (Rescue the dog):

Maddie
Yay, you're free!
Maddie
Hello boy! Do you have a name? I don't see a collar or tag on you.
Maddie
Huh, I guess you don't have an owner. Would you like to join me here? And can I call you Rufus?
Rufus
Ruff!
Ursula
Rufus, was it? Well, I suppose there's room here for another family member - as long as he doesn't dig anything up.
Maddie
He won't do that, Grandma.
Ursula
I hope not. He's cute, but I don't want him... disturbing things.
Rufus
Ruff, ruff!

Beach House[]

Maddie finds a beach house and starts repairing it. Grandma tells her about Casey and Skatie.

Dialogue[]

After Task 6-4 (Remove overgrown shrubs):

Maddie
Hey, Grandma! Look at this cute beach house I found.
Ursula
Yes, very nice. Say, Maddie, how do you spell 'heist?' Is it I before E or E before I or--
Maddie
Why on earth are you trying to spell that? Planning on robbing a bank?
Ursula
Me, rob a bank, alone?! Goodness, no. Unless... no.
Maddie
I know you're just trying to tease me, Grandma. Can we talk about this house instead? Do you know anything about it?
Ursula
Not really. I may have written about it in my old journals, though. I'll go check!
[Ursula leaves.]
Maddie
I hope she's not really contemplating bank robbery!

After Task 6-6 (Fix and restore front door):

[Lock symbol for the Side Entrance appears]
Maddie
This is where I should head next...after this beach is done.

After Task 6-18 (Restore stored surfboards):

Maddie
I'd love to see your journals one day, Grandma. Sounds like they're filled with family history.
Ursula
I'll take those books to my grave, Maddie!
Maddie
Alright, you don't need to show me! But did you find out anything about the beach house in them?
Ursula
I... yes. I know that your Grandpa's cousin 'Skatie Katie' built the place with her partner Casey.
Maddie
Skatie Katie?! She sounds pretty interesting.
Ursula
She was another Boulton inventor, just like you. But her tale is really tragic.
Ursula
In fact, I don't think I want to talk about it right now. Sorry, Maddie.

After Task 6-40 (Casey & Skatie event):

Maddie (encouraging)
Grandma, I just found a photograph - of you, Grandpa, and other people on skateboards here at the beach house!
Ursula (default)
I thought I'd burned all these old photos! I mean, uh, well. Yep, that's us - with Skatie Katie and Casey.
Maddie (default)
I didn't realise skateboarding was popular when you were kids.
Ursula (default)
It wasn't, but Katie loved roller skating, and Casey loved surfing. So one day she put the wheels of her skates onto his surfboard, and invented the first skateboard!
Maddie (worried)
What was the tragedy, though? And why did you need to check your journals if you knew about this place?
Ursula (doubtful)
The tragedy was that I was lousy at skateboarding! I fell in front of Charlie and was embarrassed for weeks. I just didn't want to tell you too.
Maddie (surprised)
Grandma, that's NOT a tragedy. You had me really worried!

Before August 2022[]

After Task 6-36:

Maddie
Alright, mind blown! So he was a surfer, she was a roller skater, and they came together and made skateboards?
Grandma
That's right, sweetie. Cousin Katie always said they invented the skateboard.
Maddie
Invented the skateboard? You're kidding, right?
Grandma
I don't know about that, but every surfer who came here looking for Casey showed up with a surfboard and left with a skateboard...
Maddie
This makes sense after all! Grandma, for a moment I was worried about you. So, I had this question about...
Grandma
Oh my gosh! I left the bath running! And I put an extra dollop of bubbles in!
Maddie
But you don’t have a bath!
Maddie
Oh well, now I can at least make space in the garage by removing items that are no longer needed

Side Entrance[]

Maddie finds yet another statue. Grandma tells her she's based on a relative of hers but doesn't reveal more.

Dialogue[]

After 34 Cut some of the withered branches

Maddie: This grand old oak tree must have been such a beauty back in the day…

Maddie: I can imagine it being a popular meeting point!

Maddie: It’ll need lots of tender loving care and hydration to return to it’s original state.

Maddie: Hold on, are those… envelopes in the trunk?

After 36 Look inside of the tree hole

Maddie: They are envelopes! Looks like they’ve been here a long time…

Maddie: judging by the heart, it’s definitely a love letter. Ooh, this is so exciting!

Maddie: Let’s see here. Hmm, the ink is a bit faded…

Maddie: “At first I was worried about our differences. We come from very different worlds, as you know, but you were right.”

Maddie: “True love defies everything. The first time we met under this very oak tree, all my doubts disappeared.”

Maddie: Oh, my! Who are these mystery love birds?!

After 38 Take down the old swing

Maddie: Another Letter! The handwriting looks different…

Maddie: “My dear Lionhearted, I couldn’t take my eyes off of you at the dance tonight.”

*** missing rest of text ***

After 39 Fix the swing

Maddie: Untangling that swing was quite a feat! Now I can finally try it out!

Maddie: I have to admit, swings always bring out my inner child.

Maddie: Ooh, there are some initials carved into the wood. V? No, W and the other one is…. to defaced for me to recognize.

Maddie: Darn it. Well, at least I have one initial to work with…

After 41 Cut the last dead branches

Roddy: Hi, Maddie! What are you up to?

Maddie: Roddy, you won’t believe it! I was fixing up this place when I found love letters hidden in the old oak tree!

Maddie: These letters are so swoon-worthy! Listen to this…

Maddie: “Every day without you is torture, my Lionheart. I so wish that we could walk hand-in-hand for all to see.”

Roddy: Wow! That’s intense.

Roddy: Say, Maddie, do you like love letters? I mean, if um, someone were to write you one?

Maddie: Of course! Expressing yourself like that is a lost art form these days…

Roddy: Really? Oh um, I just remembered I have something to do. I’ll catch up with you later!

Maddie: That was odd…

After 42 Water the tree

Maddie: I found a letter that was stuck to the previous one! It seems sadder than the others. Words have been scratched out…

Maddie: “Things are getting tougher. I feel like I’m constantly being watched.”

Maddie: “There are questions surrounding my operation and the legitimacy of the money.”

Maddie: “We might have to leave sooner than expected.”

Maddie: “I can’t wait for our new life together, my darling Winnie.”

Maddie: Winnie?  Hmm, whoever could that be?

After 43 Give some more water

Maddie: Oh, no! I think Rufus has been digging the ground again.

Maddie: Wait a second, there’s something buried here. That’s probably why!

After 44 Dig the ground

Maddie: Wow, it’s an old suitcase! It’s got some shoes and clothes…

Maddie: And a whole bunch of silver that looks like it came from the mansion. Probably stolen.

Maddie: There’s a stack of love letters as well!!

Maddie: The last love letter I read mentioned that these lovebirds were planning to run away…

Maddie: This has to be what they were going to use to start their new life elsewhere!

Maddie: It seems like they were ready to leave. Why didn’t they?

After 53 Water the flowers

Maddie: Reading those love letters made me feel like I was right there with them.

Roddy: What they went through sounds pretty distressing.

Maddie: I wish I could know that everything worked out but the fact the suitcase is here says otherwise.

Roddy: True, I’m quite curious about this shady operation, though…

Roddy: I wonder if it was happening on mansion grounds.

Roddy: I have a feeling that the butler would know. He’s been around for ages!

Maddie: The butler? It looks like I have more discoveries to make! Hey, what’s this?

Roddy: Oh, you must have missed a letter…

Maddie: “Roses are red, violets are blue. I don’t really like poems, but i do like you”

Roddy: Ahem, Roddy? Did you write this?

Roddy: Nuh-uh, I believe you have a secret admirer!

Maddie: Haha, that’s one secret I guess I can live with!

Harbour[]

There is no story here so far.

Flower Garden[]

Maddie restores the statue and Grandma tells her it's based on Maddie's Grandpa's Grandmother. She went off to work as a nurse in Europe in World War I.

Dialogue[]

After Task 19:

Maddie
What a beautiful statue. She looks sort of sad, though.
Ursula
I'd be sad too if I had to stand in a pond all day long. Probably would be a bit damp as well.
Maddie
You know what I mean, Grandma!
Ursula
Well, yeah. I think she's based on a relative of yours. Anyway, gotta go - my favorite True Crime podcast is releasing a new episode today!
[Ursula leaves.]
Maddie
Wait, Grandma! I want to know more!

After Task 20:

Ursula
You know what I like about True Crime podcasts? You really get some good cleaning tips from them.
Maddie
Well that's disturbing. Can we talk about this statue instead?
Ursula
Alright. I think she was based on your Grandpa's grandmother. She went off to work in Europe as a nurse during World War I.
Maddie
Oh my goodness! That's incredible! Was she okay?
Ursula
She made it home safely, and by all accounts helped a lot of people. Her parents built this in honor of her getting home safely.
Maddie
What a story!
Ursula
Speaking of stories, what's the story with your and that Roddy guy?
Maddie
He's just being helpful, Grandma!

After Task ???:

Grandma
Oh my, I just remembered! I pushed your grandfather into that pool once!
Maddie
Huh? Why? Were you mad at him?
Grandma
Oh, no. It's just that I saw my mother coming. No one knew about Charlie and me back then. He was a poor carpenter's son from the wrong side of town, you see.
Maddie
Did that matter?
Grandma
It did in those days. We thought if anyone caught us hanging out together, then they'd surely put an end to our courtship. That's why we never went in the house.
Maddie
Grandpa Charlie never went inside the mansion?!
Grandma
You keep on talking, I'll be back in a minute. I came out without my reading glasses and can't hear a word you're saying!
Maddie
Um... okay...

Stone Garden[]

At the start of the area, Maddie is visited by a journalist Jackie from the Hopewell Bay Times who asks about Grandma Ursula's arrest and says it is in relation to a cold case and the gold watch. Maddie says she knows nothing about the arrest and asks the journalist to leave.

Dialogue (at the end)[]

Maddie: Rufus! Rufus, come home! I've got your dinner ready for you! Well that's odd... you don't look hungry at all. Did you eat something already?? Wait a minute! Did Grandma give you treats again? I'd ask her, but I know she won't tell me anything - as always!

Outdated Dialogue[]

Maddie
Rufus! Rufus, come home! I’ve got your dinner ready for you!
Maddie
Well that’s odd… you don’t look hungry at all. Did you eat something already??
Maddie
Wait a minute! Did grandma give you treats again? I’d ask her, but I know she won’t tell me anything - like she never does.

Pool Area[]

Roddy and Maddie meet at the pool. Roddy has been asking about the gold watch around town. A few of the older residents said they recognised it, but nobody knew whom it belonged to.

Roddy comes back to tell Maddie he spoke with a friend that works at the council. They said that while they can See Maddie is doing good stuff, apparently she hasn't done enough yet. Maddie continues restoring the estate.

Maddie hears sirens coming closer and this leads to Grandma being arrested

A cut scene video is shown where Grandma is arrested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf29dgWL50U

Pool House[]

Julius and Maddie are talking about grandma's arrest and how to prove her innocence. Julius promises to find out if they can bail her out. Maddie bails Grandma out of jail and confronts her. As usual Grandma doesn't tell her anything.

Dialogue (may be outdated)[]

The Pool House opens up with a dialogue between Maddy and Roddy. Maddy wants to clean the place up to hold an event. Roddy says that should be good, but you need to check with Ursula... she holds a lot of secrets. Maddy says, yes, I really need to sit down with her and have a conversation... I need to find her.

After completing the renovation, Julius appears and reminisces about how he never stopped loving Ursula, even after Charlie entered the picture.

Julius
...Wow!
Julius
Maddie's really outdone herself here!
Julius
Seeing the place restored to it's former glory really takes me back...
Julius
I was sure I would be the one to woo Ursula, but that Charlie...
Julius
He just came in and swept her off her feet.
Julius
But the truth is I never stopped loving her...

Pool House Patio[]

Grandma tells Maddie about the BBQ area. It used to be a wasteland but Charlie turned it into a BBQ area for Ursula as a gift on their 10th wedding anniversary. Maddie promises to restore it to its former glory.

Dialogue[]

After Task 20-80:

Ursula Level 5 "Maddie, you've outdone yourself! It's as if you've turned back time."
Maddie Level 4 "I'm glad you like it. Will you tell me something else about Grandpa Charlie?"
Ursula Level 3 "He was a real romantic, giving me flowers, taking me out to the movies."
Ursula Level 10 "But then I lost him, and I've spent years missing him."
Maddie Level 12 "I'm sorry, Grandma. Did your arrest have anything to do with him?"
Ursula Level 6 "I don't want to talk about that! Just... let's get back to gardening and forget it."

The Grand Drive, Part 2[]

After area opens up (Completing Task 11-11):

Maddie
This looks great. Thank you!
Roddy
It’s not a big deal. Buildings that are in bad shape are my area of expertise.
Roddy
Would you like to get a cup of -
Maddie
What was that noise?!
Julius
I’m sorry I didn’t know the gear was in reverse.
Maddie
Are you ok?
Julius
I think so.
Maddie
Better make sure. My Grandma lives right around the corner.
Julius
I know, that’s where I came from.
Maddie
What?
Julius
I mean that is the direction I came from.
Julius
I’m sorry. Now the gate is damaged and the car is broken.
Maddie
Maybe my friend Roddy can help with that while I take you to grandma’s.

After Task 14-4:

Julius
Thank you for your help.
Roddy
The Job is only halfway done. I still have to replace the gate.
Julius
I should be going.
Roddy
Make sure your gear is not in reverse.
Julius
Point taken.

After Task 14-5:

Julius
...
[Drives off with his van]

Fortress[]

Maddie restores the Fortress. She wonders why the gold watch is so important and how finding it led to Grandma's arrest.

Roddy comes up. He tells Maddie that he had been showing a picture of the gold watch all around the town in the hopes of helping Maddie. Maddie realises that police seeing the picture was the reason Grandma got arrested. She's disappointed and tells Roddy he should leave.

Dialogue[]

After Task 13-3

Maddie
I wish I understood why that old gold watch was so important. Why did the police use it as a reason to arrest Grandma? I'm so confused... And I don't know who to trust anymore. I can't stop working on the estate, though. I won't lose it to the local council! I just won't!

After Task 13-34 (?)

Maddie
Roddy, I'm glad you're here I need to speak to you.

After Task 13-34

Maddie
There's someone in the driveway. I think I know who...
Roddy
I can see you've been very busy! But the more you clear, the more I can see that this place is enormous! Have you thought about calling in some help?
Maddie
Now that you mention it... That's a good idea. It has been a lot of work!
Roddy
Anyway, one of the members of the city planning committee drives by here every day on the way into work. That's why I'm here.
Roddy
You see how it's all overgrown behind your garage? That's what she sees every day. You should think about tidying up over there, and soon!
Maddie
Dress to impress, right? Let's get to it, then!

After Task 13-118

Maddie
It's nice that I come from a long line of inventors.
Maddie
But I wonder how many of them were arrested...

Rufus' Park[]

Maddie builds Rufus a play area (Rufus' Park) in order to keep him busy and out of the way while she keeps restoring the estate

Dialogue[]

Introduction

Maddie Rufus, you have way too much energy = don't you little fur ball! I won't get much done around here with you 'helping'me. I need to occupy you with something.. Maybe a playground would work! I can see you like the idea! Let's build you a nice big playground.

Rufus Ruff! Ruff!

Maddie I definitely need a new tool to help me out here!

After Task 19-18

Maddie
A table saw will be perfect for the job.
Maddie
Ahh, yes. This is a cutting edge invention!

After Task 19-26

Maddie
You know, it’s really been nice to have a pet, Rufus.
Rufus
Ruff!
Maddie
I always wanted a dog, but Grandma never let me. I never found out why that was.
Maddie
I guess it doesn’t matter- because you are here now.

After Task 19-50

Maddie
Rufus, when I was a little girl I used to think I could speak dog!
Maddie
I wonder if I could speak dog now if I really try? Go on, say something Rufus!
Rufus
Ruff!
Maddie
I guess you said….ruff!
Maddie
And I guess I can’t speak dog at all.

After Task 19-63

Maddie
I am not sure if you can read but look over here Rufus! I set up a sign with your name on it!
Rufus
Ruff!
Maddie
I know, right? Nice touch, don’t you think little buddy. Now everyone can see who’s the real boss here.
Rufus
Ruff Ruff!! Ruff!!
Maddie
The place looks great. Now you can keep yourself busy playing here.
Rufus
Ruff!
Maddie
The only thing I still need to do is give back the table saw.
Maddie
Thank you table saw! This would have been so much harder without you.
Maddie
We came, we saw, we helped a dog!

Plaza[]

Dialogue (may be old)[]

After Task 14-4:

Maddie
Things might be bad with Grandma, but at least the mansion grounds are looking better.
Maddie
I wonder if it'll be enough to satisfy the local council?
Julius
Salutations, Maddie. Is Ursula here?
Julius
I heard about her arrest, and wondered if I could be of any help to her.
Maddie
Even if you can, I'm not sure she'll want help. She's refusing to talk to me about any of it!
Maddie
I wish I knew what was going on with her. She's always been secretive, but this?!
Julius
I'm sure she'll have a good reason for her secrets.
Julius
She's still your grandmother - whatever happened here. She's the same Ursula you've always known...
Maddie
He's right! I shouldn't give up on her. This arrest has to be a mistake!

After Task 14-71:

Maddie Level 5 Oh, Rufus. Things aren't looking too good around here right now.
Rufus Level 5 Ruff, ruff.
Maddie Level 4 Grandma always kept secrets, but I don't believe she'd do anything bad enough to get arrested for...
Maddie Level 12 I know she wants to keep the details of her arrest to herself, but I think I need to find out more about it.
Rufus Level 2 Ruff!
Maddie Level 3 I'll take that as encouragement! Okay, Rufus, let's help Grandma - whether she want us to, or not.

Pier[]

Maddie's phone ring. She answers. The caller introduces himself as (the supposedly dead) Grandpa Charlie

Dialogue[]

After Task 15-1

Maddie
This whole family estate is so amazing...
Maddie
Too bad I don't have anyone left to share it with.
Maddie
Who could be calling me?
Maddie
Hello?
Unknown
Maddie?
Maddie
Yes?
Unknown
This is your Grandpa Charlie.

After Task 15-4

Maddie Level 12 "Uh, Grandma - I got a phone call earlier from someone saying that they were Grandpa Charlie… "
Maddie Level 13 "Do you know who that could be?"
Ursula Level 6 "I don’t want to talk about it, Maddie!"
Ursula Level 6 "Now what else should we do here?"
Maddie Level 13 "Ugh, Grandma!"

Maze[]

Maddie arrives at the maze, along with Ursula. She asks her grandma, if she knows anything about the journal she found. Ursula seems surprised and sentimental - it was Charlie's most treasured possession. How did Maddie get it? Maddie starts to tell her that Charlie called and sent her on the quest, but Ursula interrupts annoyed. That can't have been Charlie. She leaves and Maddie decides to get to work.

Maddie looks at a drawing in the book as Julius arrives. She asks him if he knows what it is, but he doesn't. He tells her about knowing her grandpa Charlie when they were younger. He says he was keen to be an inventor and prove himself as a Boulton. Maddie decides to try and build what the drawing depicts.

Maddie wonders why Charlie thought the book would help her. She scours through and finds little codes and things. Julius, still there, tells Maddie that it's no wonder the book is filled with clues - Charlie loved them! he's not sure why, but they were his bag!

Ursula reveals that Charlie's mom was a codebreaker in WWII! She had to keep her job a secret. Maddie thinks it's amazing and Ursula agrees. Charlie's mom was formidable and kind of scary for young Ursula. she taught Charlie all that she knew from a young age. Maddie asks why she was scary, though.

Roddy notices that the sketch looks like some kind of clock! Maddie realizes he's right! In order to get the next clue, they have to build a sundial using Charlie's notes!

Dialogue[]

After Task MZE-3:

Maddie Level 11 "Uh oh, it looks like I'll need some new tools to be able to fix this part of the yard..."
Maddie Level 3 "Luckily I could borrow this concrete mixer."
Maddie Level 12 "I must remember to return it once I'm done here."

After Task ??:

Maddie Level 3 "So... I found this old notebook that belonged to Grandpa, and I think he wanted me to come here."
Ursula Level 10 "He used to love scribbling in that old thing! Where did you find it?"
Maddie Level 13 "Honestly? It was the 'prize' at the end of the scavenger hunt he sent me on!"
Ursula Level 7 "I told you to drop that, Maddie! That can't have been Charlie, alright?"
Maddie Level 8 "But Grandma, I'm sure it was! How else would I have found the notebook."
Ursula Level 1 "I don't know, and I don't want to know!"
Maddie Level 12 "Hmm. Sorry Grandma, but this is too important! I'm going to find out what's in this maze."

After Task ??:

Maddie Level 12 "Okay, maze! What am I supposed to do now? Let's see what Grandpa's notebook says."
Maddie Level 13 "So there's the drawing of the maze, and on the next page there's a series of numbers."
Maddie Level 12 "Some of them look like coordinates, but the other numbers?! I've no idea!"
Julius Level 2 "Salutations, Maddie! How are you on this fine day?"
Maddie Level 3 "Oh, hi Julius! I'm alright. I'm just looking through my grandpa's old notebook."
Julius Level 2 "Goodness, really? Oh, the secrets that must hold. He had a brilliant mind, that Charlie."
Julius Level 2 "He was an inventor too, you know, and keen to prove that he was worthy the Boulton name."
Maddie Level 12 "And inventor, huh? I wonder if these numbers I found could be for an invention of his?"
Julius Level 10 "May I see? You know, I think you're right! These look to me like dimensions."
Maddie Level 9 "Amazing! I'm going to try and build this, but I'd better keep looking around the maze, too!"

After Task ??:

Maddie Level 12 "Julius... my grandpa, uh, left me some instructions for a scavenger hunt which led me to find this notebook."
Maddie Level 13 "Do you know why he'd do that instead of just telling me outright where to find it?"
Julius Level 9 "He always loved treasure hunts and suchlike! I believe he even wrote love-letters to Ursula in, ACHOO! code."
Rufus Level 4 "Ruff!"
Julius Level 2 "Oh, how ACHOO delightful, your furry friend is ACHOO here now."
Maddie Level 3 "Rufus, if you're coming to find out how I'm getting on with Grandpa's design, then the answer is badly!"
Maddie Level 12 "I don't even understand what it is. I'm going to keep trying to make it, though, and exploring this maze!"

After Task ??:

Deb Level 8 "Maddie, darling, it's me! The woman who puts the "Great" in "Great Aunt!""
Maddie Level 7 "Aunt Deb! What are you doing here?"
Deb Level 2 "I'm here to look after my sister, of course. I read all about her thrilling brush with the law."
Deb Level 2 "And Julius, so good to see you. But you're so happy to see me that you're crying? Delightful."
Julius Level 9 "It's my ACHOO allergies! And I really must be going. Goodbye, Deborah."
Deb Level 3 "He always was a sensitive one. Just us girls now, huh Maddie? You can catch me up on things."
Maddie Level 3 "Uh, okay! I'm just going around the maze. You can join me if you like."

After Task ??:

Ursula Level 4 "Deb? What are you doing here?"
Deb Level 7 "I'm here to help you after your arrest, of course!"
Ursula Level 7 "I don't need any help, thank you very much. I keep telling Maddie that I'm fine, too."
Maddie Level 12 "While I have you both, can either of you answer a question?"
Maddie Level 12 "Julius said that Grandpa Charlie liked codes and things. Do either of you know why?"
Deb Level 12 "No idea, darling."
Ursula Level 8 "I know the answer! And it's a good one, dearie."

After Task ??:

Maddie Level 12 "Well, Grandma? Why did Grandpa Charlie like codes and puzzles so much?"
Ursula Level 8 "His mother was a codebreaker in World War II, and she passed her skills down to him."
Maddie Level 9 "A codebreaker?! That's amazing!"
Ursula Level 3 "She was an amazing person. She had to keep her job a secret for the whole of the war!"
Ursula Level 3 "Anyway, she taught your grandpa everything she knew, until he was almost as good as her."
Deb Level 10 "She was a formidable woman. I didn't think you got along with her though, Ursula?"
Maddie Level 11 "You didn't? Why not, Grandma?"

After Task ??:

Maddie Level 12 "Why didn't you get along with Grandpa's mom, Grandma?"
Ursula Level 3 "I was just scared of her. I mean, who can compete with a war hero?!"
Deb Level 9 "Neither of our families wanted Ursula and Charlie to get married, either. But they did!"
Ursula Level 2 "And I'm glad of it! Anyway, I'm off to join my knitting club - want to come, Deb?"
Deb Level 10 "Knitting isn't my style! No, I saw a cute mailman on the way over. I think I'll go and chat with him."
Maddie Level 12 "Now that they've gone, I can get back to figuring out what Grandpa wanted me to do here!"

After Task ??:

Roddy Level 1 "Hi Maddie! Nice maze. Looks like a good place to, uh, spend some time getting lost together..."
Maddie Level 4 "Huh? I guess so, but I'm here to figure out what this new quest my grandpa sent me on is!"
Roddy Level 10 "New quest? What do you mean?"
Maddie Level 11 "I found a notebook at the end of my grandpa's scavenger hunt, and now I'm trying to decode what it all means."
Maddie Level 12 "He left dimensions and some diagrams in it, but I can't get them to 'make' anything. Take a look!"
Roddy Level 4 "I don't know what they mean, but I, uh, think I know what this drawing is."
Roddy Level 3 "You might not want to hear my opinion on it, thought."

After Task ??:

Maddie Level 5 "Well, Roddy? What did you see in the notebook?"
Roddy Level 9 "It was one of the little sketches. It reminded me of the gold watch you showed me."
Roddy Level 2 "You know, the one that I took a photograph of and showed around town."
Maddie Level 1 "The one that got my grandma thrown in jail!"
Roddy Level 9 "Uh, that's it. There's a tiny sketch of it beside the drawing of the maze, I'm sure of it."
Maddie Level 11 "Wait, you're right! I didn't even notice. I was so busy looking at the maze itself."
Maddie Level 9 "Oh my! This has given me an idea, and I think I should go to the old conservatory next!"

After Task 253:

Maddie Level 3 "Good bye trusty old concrete mixer. You served me well."
Maddie Level 12 "Why does letting go of things feel always so hard..."

After Task 255:

Maddie Level 3 "Yay! Finally I made it!"

Tennis Court[]

Ursula's big sis Deb pays a visit. She tells Maddie about a family treasure buried somewhere under the tennis court. Maddie finds an old trophy with an attached note.

Dialogue[]

Introduction:

Maddie Level 11 "Wow! I had no idea there was a whole tennis court here."
Maddie Level 12 "I've always wanted to play tennis. Do you know the rules?"
Ursula Level 11 "Me? Nope. Sorry dearie, I, uh, I never liked the game."
Maddie Level 3 "That's alright! I'm just excited to have found a place like this."
Deb Level 1 "Talking about finding things - have you stumbled upon the family treasure yet?"
Maddie Level 11 "What treasure? I've never heard of such a thing!"
Deb Level 1 "Well I would advise you to look inside this tennis bag."
Deb Level 2 "You'll find everything you need to work your way into another family secret!"
Maddie Level 8 "Why is everyone talking in riddles and no one's telling me the truth!"

After Task 21-22:

Maddie Level 3 "Hi Julius! What brings you round?"
Julius Level 2 "In truth, I was taking a little tour of the grounds. I didn't expect anyone to be up here."
Julius Level 4 "I thought that this area of the estate was well and truly closed."
Julius Level 10 "Were you about to play a game?"
Maddie Level 8 "I... well, I don't know how to play! Grandma never taught me. She says she doesn't like tennis."
Maddie Level 11 "Hey, look down there! I think there's a photo sticking out of the bush."
Maddie Level 11 "I don't believe it - this is Grandma and her sister Deb! And they're playing tennis! Why would she lie about hating it?"
Julius Level 10 "I, ahem, have no idea! Goodness, is that the time? I must dash..."
Maddie Level 12 "Hmmm, that was strange! Grandma lied about tennis, and Julius ran away. I'm going to call Deb and find out more!"

After Task 21-63:

Maddie Level 3 "Great Aunt Deb!! It's so good to see you. Thanks for coming over."
Deb Level 3 "My pleasure. To be honest, I leapt at the chance - especially since Ursula hardly ever invites me round."
Deb Level 5 And I can see why she didn't want me to come here. Ha!"
Deb Level 4 "It's the scene of the crime, after all..."
Maddie Level 11 "Crime?! What crime?"
Deb Level 4 "She didn't tell you, huh? Well, let's just say that your Grandma was a sore loser when it came to tennis!"
Deb Level 6 "Tell me, Maddie - what do you know about the family treasure?"
Maddie Level 12 "Uh, nothing, but I'm all ears."
Deb Level 3 Well, I don't want to say too much, but I'm sure it's here. You should look for it - see if you can find my missing treasure!

After Task 21-106:

Maddie Level 11 "Grandma! And Great Aunt Deb! I didn't expect to see both of you."
Ursula Level 11 "I heard that she came poking around, and decided that I should be here next time she visited!"
Deb Level 3 "You're just worried that I'll spill all your secrets! Like how you always used to lose at tennis..."
Ursula Level 1 "That's a lie! Charlie and I always won. It was you and Julius that lost."
Maddie Level 11 "Wait, you used to play doubles with Grandpa and Julius?!"
Deb Level 2 "We sure did - and boy, was your Grandpa Charlie cute!"
Ursula Level 1 "He was cute - and he was mine!"
Maddie Level 12 "I don't get it. Why did you stop playing? And what does tennis have to do with treasure?"
Deb Level 4 "We stopped playing when the family treasure went missing. Who knows - if you find it, maybe we'll play again!"
Ursula Level 12 "Hmmm. Alright-find the family treasure, Maddie, and you'll see the game of the century."
Maddie Level 3 "How can I say no to that?"

After Task 21-100:

Maddie Level 11 "I found something! Is this it - the family treasure?! A dirty old trophy with a note wrapped round it?"
Deb Level 5 "That's the treasure, alright! But what does that note say?"
Maddie Level 3 "It says "Ursula and Deb - burying this seems like the only way to stop you fighting over it..."
Maddie Level 11 "The last time you played, Julius and I thought you were going to kill each other! Since you never agree who won, I thought everyone should lose this. Charlie."
Ursula Level 3 "My Charlie wrote that? Oh, no."
Deb Level 4 "He wasn't wrong was he? We did fight a lot until this thing went missing."
Ursula Level 3 "We sure did. Maybe we shouldn't have that rematch. How about a game of checkers and some cake instead?"
Deb Level 3 "Deal!"
Maddie Level 9 "This might not be the sort of treasure I was imagining, but it was fun to find."
Maddie Level 12 "I think I'd better bury this again though - it sounds like it was trouble!"

Maddie finds an old cemetery and a grave marked "C. Boulton". She think's it's Charlie's, but it's actually Clara Boulton's - a distant relative with a tragic story

Dialogue[]

After Task 23-2:

Maddie Level 11 "Why did you never tell me about the cemetery before, Grandma?"
Ursula "Well, it's not exactly a fun place to hang out, is it?"
Maddie Level 13 "I guess not. Why's it here, though? I didn't think I'd see a cemetery in our garden!"
Ursula Level 3 "Oh, a lot of these big houses used to have cemeteries. A few of the notable Boultons were laid to rest here."
Ursula Level 4 "It makes me a bit sad, this place. Makes me think of your Grandpa Charlie."
Maddie Level 3 "Really? Did he enjoy coming here?"
Ursula "Uh... no. Forget I said anything, dearie."
Maddie Level 12 "That was weird! I'd better stick around here and see what's going on."

After Task 23-83:

Maddie Level 7 "Hi Roddy! Sorry you caught me in the cemetery."
Roddy Level 1 "Don't be! I think cemeteries are kind of... romantic."
Roddy Level 11 "Well, uh, I'm here because I heard a rumor that the local council are really out to get you now."
Maddie Level 1 "I know! They sent around a photographer, Holden, to check up on me."
Roddy Level 2 "Holden, huh? I've met him. Snooty, isn't he? And his photographs aren't any good."
Maddie Level 12 "Well, he seems a bit stuck up, but -- oh my goodness! Roddy, look at this gravestone!"
Maddie Level 11 "It's for a 'C. Boulton!' Could this be Charlie, my grandpa?"
Roddy Level 10 "But if it is, who called you, and who sent you on this quest?!"
Maddie Level 12 "This is so confusing. I'd better get Grandma back around here to talk."

After Task 23-96:

Maddie Level 11 "Jackie! I wasn't expecting you. Is everything okay?"
Jackie "Sure! I just really enjoyed our scavenger hunt, you know?"
Jackie "I wondered how you were getting on with things?"
Maddie Level 5 "I'm alright. A bit confused, to be honest."
Jackie "Sorry to hear that. This is a nice old cemetery though. Who does the grave belong to?"
Maddie Level 12 "It's a C. Boulton - do you know them? I wondered it if could be my Grandpa, Charlie..."
Jackie "I think I know who that is! In fact, I'm sure of it."

After Task 90:

Maddie Level 11 "Well?! Does this grave belong to my Grandpa Charlie?"
Jackie "I don't think so! In fact, I think it belongs to Clara Boulton - she's a local legend."
Maddie Level 6 "She is? What did she do?"
Jackie "She fell in love with a man visiting from Europe, and defied her family wishes to marry him."
Jackie "I heard she went missing after the wedding, but this must be her grave!"
Maddie Level 11 "Wait, that's it?! Isn't there more to the story?"
Jackie "If there is, I don't know it. Maybe you should check out the old Boulton crypt - it might have more info for you."

After Task 23-106:

Ursula "Why are you fixing up this old thing?"
Maddie Level 3 "Well I, uh, heard about Clara Boulton, and wondered if this place would tell me more about her."
Ursula Level 10 "Poor Clara! She was Ignatius's second daughter, and lost her heart to a sailor."
Ursula Level 4 "As soon as he found out the family fortune was invested in tin cans and this estate, he left her."
Ursula "Clara died of a broken heart a few months later. Her parents were too sad to even tell people about the funeral."
Ursula Level 10 "When I married Charlie my parents thought he wanted our estate too, and were worrried I'd be like Clara."
Ursula Level 3 "Luckily for me, he stuck around and didn't care about money!"
Maddie Level 3 "Well, I'm glad it worked out for you two, unlike poor Clara here."
Ursula Level 3 "And I'm glad you've given her a nicer resting place than she had before, dearie."

Romantic Spot[]

Dialogue[]

After Task 3:

Maddie Level 11 "What a cute little part of the estate!"
Maddie Level 12 "I wonder if it has any clues about what happened between Grandma and Grandpa?"
Maddie Level 3 "I'm going to ask Grandma to come here and help me out as I tidy up!"

After Task 19:

Ursula Level 3 "Well, here you go. This is the place my Michael first saw Becky!"
Maddie Level 12 "My parents first met by some flowers?"
Ursula Level 3 "That's right. Becky and her family were new in town, and I invited them here one afternoon."
Ursula "When little Mikey saw Becky, that was it! He was eight years old, and it was love at first sight."
Ursula Level 5 "He tried to give her some flowers, but she just wanted to play hide and seek!"
Ursula "It would be years and years until she felt the same way as him."
Maddie Level 6 "Tell me more!"

After Task 28:

Maddie Level 11 "Grandma, do you see this?! It says 'Becky loves Mikey' on it!"
Maddie Level 12 "My Mom must have carved it into the tree!"
Ursula Level 10 "She did. She and Michael used to love coming here together."
Maddie Level 9 "Really? Oh, Grandma, will you tell me about them? I... I'd love to know more about my parents."
Ursula Level 4 "Well, alright, but I need some time to gather my memories. This isn't easy to talk about, you know."

After Task 38:

Maddie Level 9 "This treehouse is just adorable. I can't wait to sit up there and read a book."
Ursula Level 7 "It's true, it's the perfect place to read a horror novel at night, dearie."
Ursula Level 8 "But it's more than that. It was a special place for Michael and Becky."
Ursula Level 5 "When they were just kids, they used to leave notes here for each other."
Ursula Level 3 "As the years went on, the notes got more and more romantic!"
Ursula Level 7 "Michael left Becky a note here that started his treasure hunt, and led to her finding the engagement ring!"
Maddie Level 9 "How lovely. It's nice to hear how happy they were!"
Ursula Level 10 "They were happy... most of the time..."

After Task 41:

Maddie Level 13 "What's the matter, Grandma? Why do you look so sad?"
Ursula "It's just that this is the spot where your parents broke up."
Maddie Level 8 "What?! My Mom and Dad broke up? When?"
Ursula Level 4 "Oh, long before you were born, don't worry! But it was a sad time."
Ursula Level 10 "Your mom got accepted into a good college... in Europe."
Ursula Level 4 "She, well, she didn't think they'd make it long distance, so she broke up with Michael."
Maddie Level 4 "I can't believe this! Why did she do it?"
Ursula Level 4 "Things were different back then. We didn't have the internet. No video calls, no emails."
Maddie Level 13 "What made them get back together?"

After Task 64:

Maddie Level 11 "Don't tell me someone used to drive this old thing? It's a wreck!"
Ursula Level 3 "True, but at one time, it was your father's pride and joy."
Ursula Level 5 "He restored it and took your mom out on their first date in this car!"
Ursula Level 10 "Your Grandpa Charlie wasn't happy. He thought something bad would happen in the car."
Ursula Level 6 "It turned out he should have worried about something else with those two."
Maddie Level 13 "What? Grandma, whatever did happen to my parents?"
Ursula Level 4 "This is why I don't like telling you family stories! I don't want to dredge up bad things from the past."
Maddie Level 3 "Okay, sorry Grandma. Tell me another happy story about them instead, please?"

After Task 97:

Maddie Level 12 "Well, Grandma? What made my mom and dad get back together?"
Ursula Level 7 "Funnily enough, it was this statue!"
Maddie Level 6 "What do you mean?"
Ursula "Your mom was visiting during her summer break about halfway through college."
Ursula Level 3 "She came to see Michael and brought him a little statue as a peace offering from Europe."
Ursula Level 5 "As soon as she saw him, though, she realized how much she'd missed him, and dropped the statue to kiss him!"
Ursula Level 3 "If you look closely, you can see the cracks from where Michael glued it back together."
Ursula Level 7 "She transferred to a local college, and they got right back on track."
Maddie Level 12 "That sounds so sweet! I wish I remembered them."
Ursula Level 5 They were sweet on each other, but they were both even sweeter on you, dearie."

After Task 99:

Ursula Level 8 "Thanks for asking me to come and help out here, Maddie"
Ursula Level 7 "It was nice to be reminded of all the good times with your parents."
Maddie Level 12 "I'm glad! Now that we've talked about the good times, can we talk about... the bad times?"
Maddie Level 13 "What, uh, what exactly happened to my parents?"
Maddie Level 4 "I really want to know, Grandma"
Ursula Level 1 "And I really don't want to talk about it, dearie!"
Ursula Level 3 "I do want to go and watch a horror film, though. Goodbye!"
Maddie Level 12 "Huh. She might not want to talk about it, but one day, I will find out what happened to my mom and dad!"
